Alliance Française in Southern Africa

The Alliance Française in Southern Africa comprises of 22 French language training centres in Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Eswatini and South Africa. These centres teach French to over 5,000 students a year where more than 100 teachers are employed. The Alliance Française also offers a variety of workshops which include learning French through music, theatre, travel and food. The goal is always to make the learning experience more fun and to let students enjoy their French experience.

With the support of the French Embassy in Pretoria and the Institut Français d’Afrique du Sud as well as partnerships with local companies and cultural bodies, a wide-range of cultural programs are hosted which  present a unique mix of music, theatre, visual arts and dance. Dates when these events take place, are:

  • La semaine du français et de la Francophonie (Week of French language and Francophonie): Around 21 March each year
  • La Fête de la musique (Word Music Day): On 21 June each year
  • La fête nationale / Jour de la Bastille (French National Day) : on 14 July each year
