Established in 1953, the Alliance Française de Bloemfontein is a non-profit organisation with the main objective to promote the French language and culture as well as intercultural exchanges between France, French-speaking countries and South Africa.

Exams
DELF examination
The Alliance Française de Bloemfontein is the only institution in the Free State accredited by the CIEP (Centre international d’études pédagogiques) of France and is supported by the French Embassy in Pretoria.
Independent Examinations Board (IEB) matric examination
All schools in Bloemfontein can work with the Alliance Française de Bloemfontein and have their learners register for French as second additional language and write the IEB examination for matric that is recognised by the Department of Education.
The Alliance Française in Southern Africa comprises of 22 French language training centres in Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Eswatini and South Africa.
